October ’13 – Kathryn Steen, Lynda Sawyer, Gladys Wheatley/ Jenny Wolpert
A common theme in Canadian art is the expression of our relationship with the countryside and wildlife. Much more so than many other cultures, Canada is wilderness. From the First Nations to the settlers, and from the modern cities that are shut-down by weather to the small towns that celebrate it, Canadian culture maintains an appreciation and respect for the natural environment. And that influence over us plays out in our stories, our music, and, of course, our visual art.
We invite you to have a look at four artists’ perspectives: Kathryn Steen, Gladys Wheatley, and Lynda Sawyer–all locals; and Jenny Wolpert who now hails from Hope, but was born in Quesnel. The two exhibitions dove-tail, nicely.
